Sierra Johnson-Golding, a senior at Heritage High School, will compete in Dramatic Interpretation at the National Speech and Debate Association’s (NSDA) National Tournament in June. Competing against students from 16 other schools, Johnson-Golding took first place at a recent NSDA district tournament, which qualified her for the national competition.
Throughout the course of the season, Johnson-Golding took first place in Dramatic Interpretation at six other tournaments, including at the University of Utah Invitational in Salt Lake City. This is her second year on Heritage’s Speech and Debate Team and is her second year as team captain for Individual Events. Head Coach Greg Breitbarth said, “Her teammates and coaches have grown to appreciate her presence as a leader and a mentor. We are thrilled that she will represent Heritage High School at the national tournament this summer.” In addition to Dramatic Interpretation, Johnson-Golding is a member of the school’s swim and rugby teams. A pole vaulter on the track team, she was also elected team captain this season.
Heritage High School was also honored at the national qualifying tournament. The school received the Leading Chapter Award from the NSDA, recognizing the school for its growth and success within its district. “The students on the team have worked incredibly hard this season. Their hard work and dedication was recognized by the other schools in the district,” said Coach Breitbarth.
